Part of Sounds About Town
About This Performance
One of music’s greatest anti-war statements, Britten’s masterpiece poignantly combines the moving WWI poetry of Wilfred Owen with the Catholic Mass for the Dead. At the top of his score, Britten inscribed Owen’s preface: “My subject is War, and the pity of War. The poetry is in the pity. All a poet can do is warn.”
A musically inspired, philosophically probing, intellectually inventive tour de force of the creative spirit, honoring the composer’s 100th birthday anniversary.
Britten master and LA Opera Music Director James Conlon leads an array of L.A.’s finest youth ensembles.
