Part of Visiting Orchestras
About This Performance
Zubin Mehta first conducted the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in 1961, substituting for Eugene Ormandy, and became its Music Director in 1969. (The Orchestra was founded the year Mehta was born.) One of the great musical partnerships of our time, Mehta and the IPO have a huge discography, which includes a characteristically robust live account of Brahms’ First Symphony from 2009.
Mehta and the IPO in Romantic symphonies, including a rare performance of Schubert’s youthfully dashing and lyrical Third Symphony.
Fabulously expressive Chinese pianist Yuja Wang plays Chopin.
