About This Performance
Celebrate Valentine’s with one of the most romantic of all musical styles – the bossa nova - and vocalist Maria Rita. She performs some of her hits as well as timeless classics her mother, Elis Regina made famous.
This concert is dedicated to the memory of Oscar Castro-Neves who was originally scheduled to perform with Maria Rita. Here are her thoughts on a great man and inpiring performer:
I just found out about Oscar Castro Neves’ passing. I already knew of his condition, and received the news rather emotionally. However, my heart was not yet ready for the goodbye to the man with the generous look in his eye and a smile that felt like a hug, signs of a true gentleman. It was not ready for the goodbye to the passionate father and grandfather (oh, he could brag about them for hours...). This heart was not yet ready for the goodbye to the ingenious artist - who could also be so simple, humble in all that ingenuity; the musical partner who could be so vibrant because of a song (like every musician should be); to the musical director who could be so patient with this incredulous and nervous singer performing right in front of that living legend.
Oscar, it was a great honor and a joy and a gift and a treat to have the opportunity to share the stages with you. I know that Music feels the same.
