Inspired by Matthew Brady’s Civil War photographs and composed by Philip Glass for L.A.’s 1984 Olympic Arts Festival, the “Rome Section” of Robert Wilson's epic the CIVIL warS is an operatic multi-part cantata of profoundly moving music, ruminating on war and the disruption of the moral order through such characters as the Lincolns, Garibaldi, Robert E. Lee, Hercules, and more. A major event.
