Beethoven: Missa Solemnis (staged, with video; world premiere production) (c. 80 minutes)
About This Performance
Conductor, pianist, and composer Michael Tilson Thomas has been a musical maverick throughout his storied career. To mark his 70th birthday, he has conceived a new way to immerse yourself in Beethoven's sublime masterwork, staged with complementary video.
Come for: Audiences and critics alike have marveled at the Phil's groundbreaking stagings – incomparable combinations of the visual and musical arts. Join L.A.-born and -bred MTT for a once-in-a-lifetime, world-premiere production.
And more: One of the pinnacles of the orchestral-choral repertory re-mastered. “From the heart – may it return to the heart,” is how Beethoven inscribed the copy he presented to the work’s dedicatee, his patron, friend, and sometime pupil, the Archduke Rudolf of Austria.
