Part of Sounds About Town
USC Thornton Symphony
Carl St.Clair, conductor
Glenn Dicterow, violin
About This Performance
One of L.A.’s greatest student orchestras in a U.S.-centric program beginning with a fast and flamboyant, but rarely heard, overture by Bernstein.
Come for: One of Bartók’s greatest works, the virtuosic powerhouse Concerto for Orchestra was composed in New York for the Boston Symphony. It tests both the technical chops and the interpretive heart of any ensemble.
And more: The return of L.A. native and former LA Phil concertmaster, Glenn Dicterow. He is retiring after 34 years as concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic and has taken a faculty position at USC.
