Designed by architect Frank Gehry, Walt Disney Concert Hall is an internationally recognized landmark and one of the most acoustically sophisticated concert halls in the world.
From the stainless-steel curves of its striking exterior to the state-of-the-art acoustics of the hardwood-paneled main auditorium, the 3.6-acre complex embodies the unique energy and creative spirit of the city of Los Angeles and its orchestra.
Thanks to the vision and generosity of Lillian Disney, the Disney family, and many other individual, foundation, and corporate donors, Southern California audiences enjoy the music of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Master Chorale and visiting artists and orchestras from around the world.
Music, here, becomes a socializing force, a place of shared human solace.

Walt Disney Concert Hall is home to the Los Angeles Philharmonic, which performs foundational works of orchestral music, adventurous music by contemporary composers, and other exploratory music that crosses boundaries of genre and generation. The orchestra’s versatility and spirit have made it among the most highly acclaimed and celebrated ensembles anywhere in the world.
- 50 different design iterations explored before the final version was built, all featuring Frank Gehry’s signature swooping forms.
- 30,000 architectural drawings generated to complete the building.
- 49 miles the concert hall’s 12,500 stainless-steel panels would stretch if laid end to end.
- 133,000 square feet of Douglas Fir acoustic paneling covering the concert hall’s interior.

The iconic spaces of Walt Disney Concert Hall
The graceful stainless-steel "sails" of Walt Disney Concert Hall's exterior.
The Hall's interior was designed by Frank Gehry and acousticians Dr. Minoru Nagata and Yasuhisa Toyota.
Gehry designed the Hall to be "a living room for the city," which makes the Grand Staircase a kind of front porch.
The acoustics were modeled on Tokyo's Suntory Hall and provide excellent sound with no amplification.
The Blue Ribbon Garden offers leafy, meditative ambience, as well as views of Downtown Los Angeles.
The Hall's exterior is particularly striking at night, when the drama of its many shadows becomes more pronounced.
Exceptional lighting design complements Gehry's striking interior, providing visual accompaniment for the music.
Concertgoers are always welcome to stroll the garden ahead of their performances or during intermission.
