Artistic Development
Artistic Virtuosity is considered to be a “great skill in music”. We use this guiding core tenet to address the depth with which we teach YOLA musicians in their technical proficiency. We provide rigor and the necessary, respected pedagogy that enables our YOLA musicians to have the technical facility to achieve progress on their chosen instrument.

Mahlerthon | March 2, 2025
YOLA Alumni, YOLA Teaching Artists, and current YOLA musicians participated in a citywide celebration of Gustav Mahler presented through the LA Phil’s Mahler Grooves series. Youth and University ensembles from across Los Angeles joined together for a marathon of Mahler’s music. This was the first time in YOLA’s history that this many alumni were able to perform together!

On the World Stage
Because of YOLA's dedicated rigor, students and alumni have had the opportunity to perform with world-renown artists. Most recently, six YOLA Alumni joined the LA Phil’s set at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, as LA Phil substitute performers, marking the first time a major orchestra performed at Coachella - over both weekends! Conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, the orchestra collaborated with an incredible lineup including: Laufey, Cynthia Erivo, Zedd, Ca7riel y Paco Amoroso, Marren Morris, Becky G, Natasha Bedingfield, and Dave Grohl.
