Steven Stucky and Sue Tsao Fellow Chairs
Two distinguished fellowships offered to Composer Fellowship Program (CFP) participants for the the opportunity to compose new works in collaboration with professional musicians and youth ensembles.

The Stucky/Tsao Fellows will have a unique opportunity to work collaboratively across the LA Phil’s increasingly interconnected, youth-centered programs by composing a new work to be premiered by professional musicians, as well as for youth orchestra musicians.
The two Fellowship Chair positions have been named in honor of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Steven Stucky, who served as the LA Phil’s new-music curator for more than 20 years and was the visionary founder and initial director of the CFP program, and long-serving LA Phil Board Member Sue Tsao, a committed champion of music education, new music, and the CFP program.
Program Highlights
- Fellows compose new works to be premiered by:
- Professional musicians, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, at one of the LA Phil’s venues (Stucky Fellow)
- A Youth ensemble such as the YOLA National or YOLA Institute ensembles (Tsao Fellow)
- Fellows engage in collaborative, peer-driven learning and build lasting creative relationships with performers
Eligibility
- Stucky Fellow Chair: Open to alumni of CFP and the Associate Composer Program
- Tsao Fellow Chair: Open to current participants of CFP only
