Clara-Jumi Kang • Sunwook Kim
Each an accomplished soloist on their own, Kang and Kim together have been celebrated on stage and in recordings as a “breath of fresh air” (Fanfare) with their exceptional technique and electrifying stage presence. Their Walt Disney Concert Hall program opens with a pair of haunting sonatas: Tartini’s fiendish “Devil’s Trill” and the First Violin Sonata that Prokofiev said evokes “wind passing through the graveyard.” After intermission, Kim and Kang combine their musicality to express more romantic themes in Chausson’s Poème—inspired by a tale of triumphant love—and Franck’s sonata he composed as a wedding gift.
