Waxahatchee & MJ Lenderman

Walt Disney Concert Hall

After five critically acclaimed albums, Waxahatchee’s Grammy-nominated 2024 release Tigers Blood cemented Katie Crutchfield as a songwriting powerhouse, unyielding in her dissection of the self. Her sound has evolved from lo-fi folk to lush alt-country, growing in scale with her audience but retaining the raw honesty and introspection that glitters in her earliest work.

Frequent Waxahatchee collaborator and indie-rock stalwart MJ Lenderman, who lent his guitar playing to Tigers Blood, released his album Manning Fireworks that same year. It quickly topped best-of lists, with The New York Times praising Lenderman’s rare, John Prine-like ability to blend humor and poignancy: “…a trick few songwriters can pull off. Lenderman can.”

These two kindred spirits of Southern-tinged indie rock bring their songcraft to Walt Disney Concert Hall in an evening of up-close performances, solo and together.
