About this Performance

Important Concert Update: Due to illness, both Michael Tilson Thomas and Yuja Wang must cancel their appearances on February 1 with the LA Phil. We are grateful to Susanna Mälkki, Edwin Outwater, and Jon Kimura Parker for agreeing to perform in their places in this celebration of MTT. Poulenc’s Sonata for Four Hands and Tilson Thomas’ You Come Here Often? have been removed from the program. The remaining program is unchanged.

For further assistance, please contact Audience Services at information@laphil.org or 323 850 2000.

Michael Tilson Thomas has been part of the LA Phil family for more than five decades, and in honor of his 80th birthday, the orchestra celebrates its former Principal Guest Conductor with selections of his music and other classic gems.

Kicking off the evening with what MTT calls “alternately elegant and goofball percussion entrances,” he conducts his jubilant Agnegram, followed by a festive and scintillating impression of Spain in Ibéria by Debussy, a composer whose sensuality has captivated MTT like no other.

Like Ibéria, Britten’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra is brilliant, imaginative, and an all-encompassing favorite of MTT.
