About this Performance

No matter how you play the organ, Rachel Mahon says, “your heart has to be in it.” And so do your feet! She opens her recital with J.S. Bach’s towering Toccata, Adagio and Fugue in C, which features the longest-known pedal introduction ever written—it’s a must-see display of the soloist’s extraordinary focus and ankle agility.

Also on the program are works written by composer-organists during pivotal points in their careers: Langlais’ flashy and fiendish Triptyque, Mendelssohn’s dramatic and grand Sonata No. 3, Whitlock’s melodic and unpretentious Scherzo, and more by two acclaimed Canadians.

As one half of the music-and-comedy duo Organized Crime, Mahon has performed in all sorts of wacky ways, helping to reintroduce this massive instrument to audiences all over the world through her humor and talent.  Critics from Gramophone, BBC Music, and more applaud Mahon for her panache and attention to detail—and now, the Toronto-born organist brings her unique style and skill to LA for her Walt Disney Concert Hall debut.

This performance is generously supported by Mari L. Danihel.
