About this Performance

John Williams is best known for writing some of the most iconic and unforgettable themes and scores in film history, and his contributions to the concert hall repertory over the last 70 years have made him all the more beloved and distinguished. A young conductor on the rise, Anna Handler returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall to lead Williams’ dignified and lyrical Trumpet Concerto with LA Phil Principal Trumpet Thomas Hooten, who in 2019 crowd-funded and self-produced his own recording of the piece, which debuted at No. 1 on the iTunes classical chart.

Handler also conducts the awe-inspiring and majestic theme from Jurassic Park (on Saturday and Sunday) as well as the thrilling orchestral showpiece that is Symphonic Dances—Rachmaninoff’s final composition, which fuses Romantic melodies with Modern harmonies, hints of jazz, and medieval chant.
