All living things are in a constant state of metamorphosis—growing, evolving, and responding to the world around them. Strauss’ Metamorphosen, inspired by Goethe’s writings on plant and animal metamorphosis, is a poignant, musical eulogy to an annihilated pillar of culture with an uncertain hope for its renewal.

Benjamin Picard, a Los Angeles Philharmonic Librarian since 2020, likens his new piece about expansion and contraction to “ripples on the surface of the water...[that] build in momentum and expressive intensity.” Strings spiral out—first quietly and introspectively, then with more energy and bravura!

Members of the LA Phil open the concert with one of Arvo Pärt’s works of “creative silence” and Philip Glass’ existential and passionate quartet based on a Samuel Beckett novel.

Come early and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine before the performance, starting at 6:30pm.
