About this Artist
Harpist and composer, Shelley Burgon is an accomplished and sought-after performer and collaborator in the world of avant-garde and new music. Her interpretations of works by composers such as Pauline Oliveros, John Cage, Morton Subotnick, and James Tenney—as well as her collaborations with artists as diverse as Fred Frith, Butch Morris, Anthony Braxton, and Björk—have shown her to be an artist with an extraordinary ability to delve deeply into the core of music, surpassing the limitations of technical mastery with a transcendent sense of nuance and feel. Over the years, Burgon’s own compositions, including works for groups such as the Merce Cunningham Dance Company and The Ne(x)tworks ensemble featuring Joan La Barbara, have demonstrated these intangible qualities with even greater clarity and revealed her as an artist with a deeply personal vision. Her debut double LP The In Between for solo harp is out now on the Thin Wrist/Black Editions label.
