About this Artist
SOPHIE FETOKAKI completed a Bachelor’s in Music at City University London, during which she studied Brazilian, West African, and Cuban music, ethnomusicology and electroacoustic composition, alongside singing lessons at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. After completing this eclectic degree she decided to bring these various ways of making and thinking about music into one instrument, and moved to Amsterdam to pursue her singing studies with Pierre Mak. She completed her Bachelor’s in vocal performance at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam in 2014. She currently studies with Douglas Hines in Vienna.
Alongside performing, Sophie is the founder and curator of the interdisciplinary performing arts series “DoorKruising” (loosely, Intersection) which hosts bi-monthly events featuring a carnivalesque array of performances drawn from a variety of disciplines, with contemporary and pioneering 20th-century works of music at its core. The series is currently supported by The Amsterdam Fund for the Arts.
