Maestro Aloke Dasgupta

About this Artist

Maestro ALOKE DASGUPTA is best known for his wide range of collaborations in various genres, while keeping the integrity of classical-style sitar intact. After studying under one India’s greatest maestros, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Aloke began performing at sold-out concerts worldwide. Having recorded or performed for Ozzy Osbourne, Mick Jagger, and Gwen Stefani, to name a few, Aloke has become the go-to sitar man for many notable artistic projects. In fact, he has regularly been chosen to perform for Cheap Trick’s Sgt. Pepper Live! shows by legendary Beatles’ sound engineer Geoff Emerick, whose seasoned and precise ear calls for only the best to maintain the musical integrity and spirit of The Beatles’ music.

In 1995, Aloke was presented with the prestigious SOPAN award in India for his creative excellence in music. Maestro Dasgupta has also been featured on a number of films and television shows ranging from Twix commercials, Disney’s The Zach and Cody Show: Sweet Life on Deck, ESPN’s Sideline, and has recorded for the soundtracks of award-winning films such as Outsource and Ocean of Pearl. Aloke also enjoys playing at private concerts for weddings and special occasions, and he has performed at the homes of A-list Hollywood directors and talent.

After receiving a master’s degree in Ethnomusicology from San Diego State University, Maestro Dasgupta opened a now renowned not-for-profit institution, the Raga Ranjani School of Music, which has trained a variety of students on the sitar, in classical Indian singing, and on other instruments. He is available for private lessons, performances, lecture demonstrations, and as part of an ensemble which can include tabla, guitar, bass, dilruba, keboard, and other instruments depending on your preference and tastes.
