Russian-born soprano NATALIA DERCHO was a prize-winner at the 1991 Belvedere Competition in Vienna. In 1992 she joined l’Opéra de Lucerne, and since then has performed the title roles in Madama Butterfly and Janácek’s Jenufa, Nedda in Pagliacci, as well as the roles of Elisabetta in Verdi’s Don Carlos and Martha in d’Albert’s Tiefland. In 1995, Dercho performed the title role in Madama Butterfly at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago which led to a performance at Teatro Regio in Turin, under the baton of John Mauceri. She has since performed this role worldwide and will sing in a new production for Scottish Opera next season. Natalia Dercho studied at the Moscow Conservatory. In 1990, she moved to Germany to study the German repertoire. She made her Hollywood Bowl debut in 1996.
