In his teens, countertenor Christophe Dumaux took part in masterclasses with James Bowman and Noelle Barker. He continued his studies at the Paris Conservatoire.
2002, aged just 22, he made a spectacular professional debut singing Eustazio in Handel’s Rinaldo at the Festival de Radio France, Montpellier. This production, conducted by René Jacobs, was coproduced by the Innsbruck Festival and the Berlin Staatsoper and a disc released by Harmonia Mundi.
He is since invited for engagements at major houses and festivals - the Metropolitan New York, Glyndebourne Festival , the Paris Opera , Theater an der Wien, Chicago, the Santa Fe Festival, the Berlin Staatsoper, Salzburger Festspiele, Brussels and Zurich.
This upcoming season he embarks on a recital tour singing Giulio Cesare alongside Natalie Dessay as Cleopatra. Dates include New York Lincoln Centre and the Theatre des Champs Elysées Paris; He then returns to La Monnaie to sing the title role of Tamerlano, and on to Zurich for a new production of Vivaldi’s La Verita in Cimento.

In 2011, Christophe Dumaux returned to the Opéra de Paris for two new productions, Akhmatova by Bruno Mantovani and Giulio Cesare (Tolomeo). The same year marked his critically acclaimed debuts in the title role of Giulio Cesare at the Château de Versailles and of Rinaldo at Glyndebourne.2012 marked his debut at the Salzburg Festival in a new production of Giulio Cesare and his debut at the Opernhaus Zurich.
In 2013, he returned to the Metropolitan Opera for Giulio Cesare where his singing and acting were hailed by public and critics alike. He delighted global audiences with his portrayal via the live CinecastThe same season, he made returns to both Paris and Zurich Operas and this autumn he sang in Peter Sellar’s new production of the Indian Queen in both Madrid and Perm.
2014 saw him debut his first Mozartian role, Farnace, in a new production of Mitridate at the famous Drottningholm Festival Stockholm.
Recent concerts have brought him to the Salle Pleyel for Semele and Giulio Cesare, both with Cecila Bartoli; he sang solo recitals with the Moscow Soloists and the Freiburger Barockorchester and he made his debut at the renowned Concertgebouw Hall in Amsterdam.
Among his recordings, a CD of Bach arias, released by Naïve and on Harmonia Mundi, Pergolesi’s Septem verba a Christo, conducted by René Jacobs.
His numerous DVD appearances include Giulio Cesare from the Glyndebourne Festival and from the Paris Opera, Giasone from De Vlaamse Oper, Partenope, Copenhagen Opera, Cesare from the Glyndebourne Festival and from the Paris Opera, Giasone from De Vlaamse Oper, Partenope, Copenhagen Opera .
