About this Artist
Japan-born Junko Ueno Garrett has captivated audiences around the world with her colorful tone, poetry, expressiveness, dynamic technique, and wide range of repertoire. She is a versatile musician, active as an internationally acclaimed performer and an avid chamber musician (www.junkopiano.com), an artistic coordinator/performer of “3rd@1st concert series” (www.thirdatfirst.org), a music educator - a president of the local chapter of MTNA (www.capmtpasadena.org) and a faculty at Occidental College, and a competition adjudicator. Junko received “The Japanese Consul General's Award” for her contributions to international relations, and has been chosen as a solo performer to represent Japan on the government’s culture programs in North, Central and South Americas.
Junko began playing piano at the age of three, trained at the prestigious Toho Gakuen in Tokyo, and received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Rice University in the US. She resides in LA and occasionally performs at LA Phil Chamber Music series, Music@Noon, KOT series, and faculty concerts.
Junko is a popular YouTuber of piano lessons in Japanese language (YouTube@junkouenogarrett3509) and a founder of Piano Camp for adult learners “Piano Adore” in Japan. She is a passionate Sumo advocate and a founder of the LA Sumo Fan Club. Junko is a Kawai artist.
