Japan-born pianist Junko Ueno Garrett has captivated audiences around the world with her colorful tone, poetry, expressiveness, dynamic technique, and wide range of repertoire. She is a versatile musician, active as an internationally acclaimed performer and an avid chamber musician, an artistic coordinator of and performer in the Third@First concert series, a music educator (president of the local chapter of MTNA and a faculty member at Occidental College), and a competition adjudicator. Ueno Garrett received the Japanese Consul General Award for her contributions to international relations and has been chosen as a solo performer to represent Japan on the government’s culture programs in North, Central, and South America. 

Ueno Garrett began playing piano at the age of 3, trained at the prestigious Toho Gakuen in Tokyo, and received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Rice University in Texas. She lives in LA and occasionally performs at LA Phil Chamber Music series, Music@Noon, KOT series, and faculty concerts. 

Ueno Garrett is a popular YouTuber of piano lessons in Japanese (@junkouenogarrett3509) and a founder of a piano camp for adult learners, Piano Adore, in Japan. She is a passionate sumo advocate and a founder of the LA Sumo Fan Club. She is a Kawai artist.
