JANICE HALL’s (Hannah Pitt / Rabbi Chemelwitz / Henry / Angel Asiatica) distinguished international career includes performances at some of the world’s leading opera houses and concert stages. After several years as a resident of Germany, she returned to the U.S. in 2007 and continues her career in contemporary opera, theater, and cabaret.

Immediately following her music and theater studies at Colorado Women’s College and Boston Conservatory, she was engaged by many companies, including Opera Theater of St. Louis, Washington National Opera, New York City Opera, Santa Fe Opera, and Houston Grand Opera. Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Elvira in I Puritani, and the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor became her signature roles at Hamburg State Opera, Cologne Opera, Vienna State Opera, and Covent Garden. [WATCH FOR CZECH SYMBOL] For several seasons she was an ensemble member of Cologne Opera, performing leading roles in Rigoletto, Turandot, La traviata, Rossini’s La gazza ladra, and Janácˇek’s The Cunning Little Vixen.

Further European engagements included the Zurich Opera, Teatro La Fenice, the Komische Oper Berlin, and Schwetzingen Festival, where Agrippina and La cambiale di matrimonio were filmed for German television and released on DVD. For two seasons she performed with the Salzburg Festival in Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria and also appeared with Lyric Opera of Chicago as Susanna, Vancouver Opera as Musetta, and the Flemish Opera in Venus and Adonis (John Blow). She was Violetta in the New York City Opera’s Emmy-winning telecast of La traviata, “Live from Lincoln Center,” directed by Renata Scotto. She twice performed the title role of Strauss’ Salome, which led to more modern works including The Turn of the Screw, Dialogues of the Carmelites, and Street Scene. Over the past few seasons she appeared in Angels in America with Ft. Worth Opera and reprised the roles with the BBC Symphony in London. She created the roles of The Mother / The Sea in the world premiere of Jorge Martin’s opera Before Night Falls with Ft. Worth Opera along with a recently released CD.

She made her critically-acclaimed New York solo cabaret debut with Grand Illusions: The Music of Marlene Dietrich and received the 2011 Bistro Award for a Tribute Show and the 2012 MAC Award as Best Female Vocalist. In the spring of 2012, Hall returned to Ft. Worth Opera as Maddy in Jake Heggie’s Three Decembers, and she just completed a theatrical run of James Joyce’s The Dead as Gretta at the Quotidian Theatre Co. in D.C.
