About this Artist
A graduate of the New England Conservatory and the Juilliard School, WALLY HARPER has worked as Musical Director, Composer, Dance Arranger, Conductor, and Musical Supervisor for many Broadway productions, including Company, Irene, Peter Pan, The Grand Tour, A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine, Brigadoon, Nine, My One and Only, Barbara Cook: A Concert For Theatre, Grand Hotel, and The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public. He composed the off-Broadway musical Sensations and several songs for Irene, as well as the dance music for the film The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Harper produced the original cast recordings of A Day In Hollywood and My One and Only, and recently produced the CD of the Pointer Sisters' revival of Ain't Misbehavin'.
As a symphony conductor, Harper has conducted such prestigious orchestras as the London Symphony, the Royal Philharmonic, the Melbourne Symphony, and the BBC Symphony and has served as guest lecturer for the Juilliard School and the Broadway Musical Theatre Project.
In the summer of 2001, the Berkshire Theatre Festival in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, premiered Say Yes!, a new musical with music by Wally Harper, book and lyrics by Sherman Yellen, and direction by Jay Binder.
