PATRICIA KINDEL was appointed contrabassoonist and bassoonist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic in October 1981 by Carlo Maria Giulini. A native of Los Angeles, she received a Bachelor of Music degree from California State University, Los Angeles, and a Master of Music degree in Bassoon Performance from the University of Southern California. In addition, Kindel attended the Music Academy of the West, the New College Music Festival in Sarasota, Florida, and the Claremont Music Festival in Claremont, California. She has studied with Walt Ritchie, David Breidenthal, and Norman Herzberg.

Prior to joining the Philharmonic, Kindel played principal bassoon with the Long Beach Symphony, performed frequently in the film recording industry, and freelanced with visiting opera and ballet companies. She has appeared as a guest artist at the Fairbanks Arts Festival and the Sitka Music Festival in Alaska. In 2007 she performed the Concerto for Piccolo, Contrabassoon, and Orchestra by Damian Montano with the Santa Monica Symphony, and was featured as one of two soloists for the world premiere of Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Wing on Wing.

Kindel has served on the music faculties of Pomona College and the University of California, Santa Barbara. She performs regularly in the Green Umbrella and Chamber Music series at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
