Timo Kurkikangas

TIMO KURKIKANGAS (sound design) is part of a new generation of contemporary music sound designers in Finland; his studies at the Sibelius Academy have exposed him to rising Finnish composers. In addition to assisting composers to realize electronic components in their new compositions, Kurkikangas has been working in Finland and abroad with numerous contemporary music ensembles and festivals. A few of these ensembles include Avanti!, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

In addition he has performed in many concerts that have involved compositions of composers such as Kaija Saariaho, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Magnus Lindberg, Pierre Boulez, Karlheinz Stockhausen, John Adams, and Steve Reich.

During the 2007/08 season Kurkikangas contributed to Saariaho’s La Passion de Simone, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen and performed by the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Tapiola Chamber Choir in Finland and Sweden.
