About this Artist
Nigerian saxophonist and activist FEMI ANIKULAPO-KUTI, is the undisputed inheritor of his late father’s – superstar Fela Anikulapo-Kuti – legacy. With a musical style that shares his father’s libidinous energy and lean self-confidence, he has enhanced his father’s African beat with fresh exuberance and soul-infused, dance-influenced hooks. He played in his father’s band for 16 years, including a concert at the Hollywood Bowl in 1985, fronting his father’s band on short notice. Soon after this experience, he formed his own band, Positive Force, whose lithe, sensual dancers and singers are a visual feast on stage. His album Shoki Shoki (MCA/Rightstuff) was released in February 2000 to widespread critical acclaim.
