Argentina Maria Lopez Tristancho, known artistically as ARGENTINA, got her name from her paternal grandmother. Since the release of her first album in the summer of 2006, the life of this young singer from Huelva (born June 1984) has been a whirlwind. Few flamenco recording debuts have had this kind of impact, but in the case of ARGENTINA, talent and luck have worked their magic and she is living a very special moment.
CRITICS AWARD FOR THE BEST NEW VOCAL ALBUM IN 2006; VIII NATIONAL AWARD “ACTIVE FLAMENCO – CITY OF UBEDA” 2009 and the PÚBLICO DE FLAMENCO AWARD 2010 for HER PROGRESS AND PERFORMANCE AS A YOUNG ARTIST.
During her short but intense career she has recorded three albums: Argentina en 2006, Las Minas de Egipto en 2009, and Un viaje por el Cante in 2012. Argentina´s fortunes continue rising and praise from those who attend her concerts is ever increasing. During these eight years she has appeared on such stages as: Barakaldo (Teatro Barakaldo), Burgos (Teatro Principal), Vitoria (Centro Cívico), Logroño (Teatro Bretón), Madrid (Teatro del Canal), Albacete (Teatro Circo), Granada (Teatro Alhambra), Ceuta, Auditorio Alfredo Kraus in Las Palmas in Gran Canarias, Festival Flamenco Joaquín el de la Paula in Alcalá de Guadaira (Sevilla),Teatro Cánovas in Málaga, Jardines de Sabatini in Madrid, Auditori de Barcelona, Palau of the Arts in Valencia, Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, Teatro Jovellanos in Gijón, Teatro Calderón in Valladolid, Palacio Fibes in Sevilla, Teatro Lope de Vega in Sevilla, Teatro Cervantes in Málaga, Gran Teatro de Córdoba, Palacio de Festivales in Santander, etc.
She released her last album in 2012. It was born of the tremendous success of her show of the same name, Un Viaje por el Cante. Probably the most important event of her career, it advanced her even more in the world of flamenco. In 2013 Argentina appeared at San Silvestre de Guzmán, Teatro Auditorio Roquetas de Mar, Auditorio de Cornellá in Llobregat, Noche Blanca del Flamenco in Córdoba, Festival de la Yerbabuena de Las Cabezas de San Juan in Sevilla, Festival Arte Flamenco in Málaga, Festival San Pedro in Alcántara, Festival Internacional Cante de las Minas in la Unión, Festival Cante Grande de Puente Genil in Córdoba, Castillo de Bellver in Palma de Mallorca, Fiestas de Lucena, Fiesta de la Bulería in Jerez de la Frontera de Cádiz, Cata Flamenca in Montilla, Festival Flamenco “Raíz de un Pueblo” in Sevilla, Alcalá de Guadaíra in Sevilla, Conil de la Frontera, Gran Teatro in Cáceres, Teatro Jesús Quintero in Sevilla, Teatro Isabel La Católica in Granada, and the National Auditorium in Madrid. In addition, in 2013 she appeared outside of Spain, taking her show to Oslo and to her namesake country, Argentina.
Her success and her artistry continue having more and more influence in the flamenco world and in 2014 she arrived to Nimes (France) with a powerful performance. During recent months, Argentina has performed in important venues such as: Festival de Almería, Festival Flamenco Fiesta de la Guitarra in Marchena, Palacio de Congresos Expomeloneras in Las Palmas de Gran Canarias, Cazorla, Hinojosa del Duques, Fiestas Colombinas in Huelva, Fiestas de Berrocal,…. And she recently triumphed in Madrid on an incredible evening closing the Fiestas de San Isidro 2014.
