Venezuelan soprano MARIANA ORTIZ is known for her versatility and exquisite interpretations. Ortiz has garnered critical acclaim for her outstanding performances in the leading opera houses of Latin America and Europe. Her most recent work has been the role of Mimi in the opera La bohème by Giacomo Puccini under the direction of the renowned conductor Gustavo Dudamel in Caracas on November 2014.
She graduated in Music Education at Carabobo University in Valencia, Venezuela. She completed her studies for a master’s degree in music at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Brussels, Belgium. Ortiz has participated in master clases with Margarida Natividade in Belgium, with the well-known soprano Mirella Freni and the tenor Vittorio Terranova, who have assured her an excellent career within the opera world. Currently she studies style and interpretation with Isabel Palacios.
Her more important roles include Poppea in L’incoronazione di Poppea by Monteverdi, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni and Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte by Mozart, Violetta in La traviata by Verdi, Micaela in Carmen by Bizet, Liù in Turandot by Puccini, Salud in La vida breve by Falla, Manuela Saenz in Bolivar by Milhaud, and Duquesa Carolina in Luisa Fernanda – this last a co-production with Teresa Carreño Theater, Royal Theater of Madrid, and SaludArte Foundation under the direction of Pablo Mielgo. She also maintains an active career outside opera as a recitalist and with leading parts in oratorios.
Mariana Ortiz has collaborated with different conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Christian Vasquez, Diego Matheus, Alfredo Rugeles, Rodolfo Sanglimbeni, René Jacobs, Lars Ulrik Mortensen, Simon Rattle, Evelino Pidò, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Edmon Colomer, Helmuth Rilling, Stephan Lano, Jose Miguel Rodillas, Roberto Tibiriça, Andrés Orozco, Fabio Mechetti, and Enrique Diemecke.
She is a member of the Camerata de Caracas, with which she has participated in several recordings of the Latin-American baroque repertory and colonial music in Venezuela.
