The Grammy Award-winning multi-instrumentalist musician, songwriter, and producer is known for his deep musicality, contemporary creative vision, and encyclopedic knowledge of pop/R&B music. Proven to be a go-to source for musical collaboration, Saadiq has produced and cowritten hits for some of today’s trailblazing artists including Beyoncé, Solange Knowles, John Legend, Brent Faiyaz, and Mary J. Blige.
Born in Oakland CA, Saadiq formed the group Tony! Toni! Toné! with his brother and cousin in the late '80s and enjoyed considerable success on radio and MTV with hits like “If I Had No Loot,” “Feels Good” and the iconic “It Never Rains (In Southern California).” His solo career kicked off with his 2008 homage to Motown and Philly soul, The Way I See It, and its follow up, Stone Rollin'. His deeply personal and most recent album, Jimmy Lee, was released to critical acclaim in 2019.
As his solo career thrived, Saadiq also honed his craft as a producer, working with a wide range of artists, including Beyoncé, Daniel Cesar, Snoop Dogg, TLC, Kelis, Erykah Badu and Bobby Valentino. He remains an in demand musician as well, working with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Elton John, Mick Jagger and Lady Gaga, who scouted Saadiq to play at the 2016 Grammy Awards in her memorable tribute to David Bowie. He also co-wrote career defining hits for D’Angelo “Untitled (How Does It Feel),” Solange “Cranes in the Sky,” and won a Grammy award in 2023 for his work co-writing and co-producing Beyoncé’s “Cuff It.”
Saadiq's influence can be felt across film & TV, earning Golden Globe nominations for music in the films Mudbound (2018) and The United States vs. Billie Holiday (2021). In addition, Saadiq scored Issa Rae's hit show Insecure (HBO), along with Lovecraft Country (HBO), Genius: Aretha (NatGeo), Underground (WGN) and 61St Street (AMC). Most recently, he was named executive music producer on Disney's highly anticipated new animated series Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
