San Francisco Ballet
SAN FRANCISCO BALLET is one of the largest and best-known ballet companies in the United States, presenting approximately 100 performances annually. San Francisco Ballet tours extensively, including recent performances at the prestigious Edinburgh International Festival, Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, and Spoleto Festival USA, as well as visits to New York, London, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C. In July 1985, Artistic Director Helgi Tomasson’s arrival marked the beginning of a new era for San Francisco Ballet. Like previous artistic director Lew Christensen, Tomasson performed under the tutelage of George Balanchine, the founder of contemporary American ballet. Under Tomasson’s leadership, San Francisco Ballet has become one of the spectacular success stories of the arts in America. The company last appeared at the Hollywood Bowl in 1997.
