About this Artist
Vocalist KOKO TAYLOR, known as “Queen of the Blues,” is the quintessential Chicago blues belter. Her gritty and powerful singing style combined with her exuberant, good-time approach and her tough-as-nails band can make the reluctant dance and the quiet shout. Taylor, who is known for her 1965 million-selling hit “Wang Dang Doodle,” Taylor has won a myriad of awards including 14 W.C. Handy Awards (the blues equivalent of a Grammy), five Grammy nominations, and one Grammy award. She continues to play over 200 concerts a year and will release a new album in early summer 2000 on the Alligator label.
