Richard Barshay

About this Artist

Gershwin's World conductor Robert Sadin was working on scores for Gershwins's World when he saw drummer RICHIE BARSHAY perform at the New England Conservatory. Sadin was favorably impressed with Barshay's performance in a student ensemble. The following day, when Sadin had the opportunity to see Barshay perform again with his own group, he was convinced that Barshay was the perfect drummer/percussionist for Gershwin's World. Sadin immediately contacted Hancock with the news and flew Barshay to Los Angeles to rehearse with the group. Hancock was enthusiastic and excited, and the decision was made to bring the young talented drummer into the fold. At the New England Conservatory, Barshay is a student of Danilo Perez, the pianist in the Wayne Shorter Quartet.
