Ben Toth

BEN TOTH has served as musical director/vocal coach/arranger for some of the most popular actor/singers currently working on the stage, including Lea Michele, Taye Diggs, Cheyenne Jackson, and Mandy Patinkin, with whom he performed to critical acclaim at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London’s West End. This past summer, Ben played for Tony/Emmy winner Kristin Chenoweth at the Hollywood Bowl and he continues to perform with Kristin in concerts and private events around the country.

Ben worked as vocal coach for the “The Sound Of Music Live!” on NBC (starring Carrie Underwood) and for the stage/film version of “Company” (starring Neil Patrick Harris and Stephen Colbert). In 2011, he made his Carnegie Hall debut, serving as the musical director/arranger/pianist for Cheyenne Jackson’s sold-out concert performance of “Music of the Mad Men Era.”

Ben was the composer for the critically acclaimed production of “As You Like It,” directed by Michael Sexton, and for “Liberal Arts,” a feature film starring Allison Janney, Zac Efron, Oscar Nominee Richard Jenkins, Elizabeth Olsen, and Josh Radnor.

In early 2013, the National Symphony Orchestra premiered Ben’s setting of Sylvia Plath’s “Mad Girl’s Love Song,” sung by Cheyenne Jackson at the Kennedy Center’s sold-out New Years Eve Gala.  This past August, Cheyenne performed this again with the Boston Pops, conducted by Keith Lockhart at Tanglewood.  In addition to Cheyenne, Grammy/Tony winner Duncan Sheik, Tony winner John Lloyd Young, and Grammy Nominee Jane Monheit have also performed Ben’s music.  He has co-written songs with Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Muldoon, Grammy/Tony winner Steven Sater (“Spring Awakening”), and Olivier winner Nell Benjamin (“Legally Blonde”).

Ben received a BA in American Civilization from Brown University, and studied composition, voice, piano, and orchestral conducting at the Eastman School of Music.  He makes his home in Los Angeles/New York and is represented by Buddy Thomas at ICM Partners.
