USC Thornton Choral Artists

About this Artist

Established by Charles C. Hirt in 1946, the USC Thornton Department of Choral & Sacred Music has long been an innovator and leader in the field. Alumni of the Department conduct choral ensembles of national prominence, hold faculty positions at colleges, universities, and high schools, and lead worship music programs throughout the nation and the world. The current faculty are leaders in the profession and are globally connected performers, scholars, and pedagogues.

Departmental ensembles have achieved local, national and international recognition through performances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Pacific Symphony, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and at Carnegie Hall with the New England Symphonic Ensemble. Thornton choral ensembles were featured at divisional and national conferences of the American Choral Directors Association (2005, 2015), the National Collegiate Choral Organization (2011, 2016) and the International Federation for Choral Music (2014). Tours have taken the ensembles to Australia, Bulgaria, China, Estonia, France, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, South Korea, and Spain.
