Benjamin von Atrops

BENJAMIN VON ATROPS is a 31-year-old bass from California. He was a member of the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program from 2003-2005. He has studied at the University of Southern California. Von Atrops attended the Music Academy of the West and has performed several roles with Opera Idaho, including Commendatore in Don Giovanni and Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte. In previous seasons he sang the roles of Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte and the Old Hebrew in Samson et Dalilah with the Washington National Opera. Last season he sang the roles of Vaudemont in I Vespri Siciliani, Borov in Fedora, and Lodovico in Otello, and covered Publio in La clemenza di Tito. Von Atrops is currently studying with Cesar Ulloa and made his LA Opera debut this season singing several roles in L'incoronazione di Poppea. Later this month he performs in a scene from Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District with Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
