KIMBALL WHEELER has enjoyed a rich and varied international career since making her 1982 New York Philharmonic debut under the direction of Zubin Mehta. Wheeler holds a B.A. from Bennington College and began her career as a member of the Los Angeles Master Chorale and Roger Wagner Chorale while earning her MFA at CalArts (where she later joined the voice faculty). She continued her studies on grants at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, Tanglewood, and Aspen, and won the Liederkranz and Pro Musicis Awards. Wheeler made her European debut in Italy, singing world premieres at La Fenice, the Rome Opera, and the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. She joined the Basel Opera in 1988 and went on to sing leading dramatic mezzo roles throughout Europe and Australia. She has sung with major orchestras worldwide and has appeared in recital, oratorio, symphonic, and contemporary repertoire at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, Prague's Dvorák Hall, and Vienna's Grosses Konzerthaus. Wheeler has recorded extensively (most recently Steven Richards' Songs of a Survivor with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic conducted by Gerard Schwarz for the MMC Label).
