KRISTINE WHITSON began violin and piano studies at age four. She performed throughout the Chicago area, the Midwest, and Germany as part of a Suzuki violin ensemble. She made her solo debut at age six, playing a Mozart concerto in Baden-Baden, Germany. She was a five-time winner of the Florida West Coast Symphony’s youth orchestra concerto competition. Her first professional orchestra position was with the Florida West Coast Symphony, at age 13.

Whitson studied in Gstaad, Switzerland, at the Menuhin Academy; at Indiana University; at Kneisel Hall in Blue Hill, Maine; and at the Music Academy of the West. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Performance from the New England Conservatory. Her teachers have included Betty Haag, Almita Vamos, Esther Glazer Hoffman, James Buswell, Zvi Zeitlin, Joseph Silverstein, Aaron Rosand, and Alberto Lysy.

She joined the LA Phil in November 1990, and has performed on its Green Umbrella and Chamber Music series.
