About this Artist

The Dutch actor JEROEN WILLEMS (Lucifer) studied acting at the Toneelacademie Maastricht. He started his career with Theatergroep Hollandia, where he played in productions such as Persians (1994), La Musica (1991), Voices/Twee Stemmen (performed around the world in four languages from 1997-2010), Nanna (2003/04), and Sentimenti (directed by Johan Simons and Paul Koek, Ruhr Triennale, 2003). Together with the Oostpool theatre group, he acted and sang the lead in Brel, de zoete oorlog (2004/05).

Willems has appeared in many both Dutch and international film and television productions, including Bij ons in de Jordaan (2000), Nynke (2001), Ocean’s Twelve by Steven Soderbergh (2004), Stellenbosch (2007), Der Letzte Zeuge (with Ulrich Mühe), Vermisst (with Corinna Harfouch, 2009), Schwerkraft/Gravity (2009), Songs of Love and Hate (2009), and The Throne and Your Majesty (2010). In the Wiener Festwochen of 2005, he was in Schutz vor der Zukunft (directed by Christoph Marthaler). At the 2007 Salzburger Festspiele he appeared in Quartett (with Barbara Sukowa, also in the Holland Festival 2008 and Ingmar Bergman Festival 2009). Willems was awarded the 1996 Mary Dresselhuys Prijs in the categories Oeuvre and Best Actor. In 2004 he was awarded the Louis d’Or (prize for the most impressive male role) for his role in La Musica Twee and Brel, de zoete oorlog.

Currently he is performing in the production Trois Couleurs (Kieslowski) by the Münchner Kammerspiele, and this summer he will be performing in a Marthaler production at the Avignon Festival.
