Composer EDSON S. ZAMPRONHA works with contemporary and experimental music, semiotics, and technology. He studied Composition at the São Paulo State University (UNESP). After earning a master's degree in music composition at the Rio de Janeiro Federal University (UFRJ), he completed his doctorate in Communications and Semiotics at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC/SP). Nowadays he is professor of musical composition at UNESP.
He received two prizes from the São Paulo Association of Arts Critics (APCA): for Toccata II in 1993 and Modelagem VII in 1996. He was invited composer at the Laboratory of Computer Science and Musical Electronics of the Center for the Contemporary Music's Diffusion (LIEM-CDMC), Madrid, Spain, in 1999 and 2000, and at Phonos Foundation, at the Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona, Spain, in 2001. He was invited as music researcher at Helsinki University, Finland, in 2000, and at the Valladolid University, Spain, in 2002. He is the coordinator of the Research Group in Music, Semiotics, and Interactivity. He is the author of the book Notation, Representation and Composition - a new paradigm of musical writing (Annablume/FAPESP, 2000, written in Portuguese).
