Internationally renowned as an opera and concert conductor of distinction, HARRY BICKET is especially noted for his interpretation of Baroque and Classical repertoire. In 2007, he became Artistic Director of The English Concert, one of the UK’s finest period orchestras.

The 2011/12 season includes opera productions for the Metropolitan Opera (Rodelinda), Chicago Lyric (Rinaldo), and Bordeaux Opera (Alcina), as well as extensive concert and touring projects with The English Concert featuring soloists such as Ian Bostridge, Andreas Scholl, and Vesselina Kasarova.

Highlights of recent seasons include guest conducting with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra; critically acclaimed opera productions for the Chicago Lyric (Hercules), Minnesota (Orfeo), Canadian Opera (Orfeo, Idomeneo), Liceu Barcelona (L’arbore di Diana), Theater an der Wien (Iphigénie en Tauride), and Atlanta Opera (Orfeo); extensive concerts and tours with The English Concert (including BBC Proms, Spain, the Middle East, Austria, Germany, and the U.S.); and a return to the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (including the world premiere of Ken Hesketh’s oratorio Like the Sea, Like Time). Symphonic guest conducting has included the San Francisco Symphony, the Bayerische Rundfunk, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo, the Houston Symphony, the Seattle Symphony, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the NACO Ottawa, and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Future plans include returns to many of the above-mentioned orchestras as well as productions with the Met, Liceu Barcelona, Canadian Opera Company, and Houston Grand Opera.

Harry Bicket has appeared at major U.S. festivals, such as Glimmerglass, Spoleto, Aspen, and Santa Fe. His discography includes releases with Ian Bostridge, David Daniels, Renée Fleming, Susan Graham, and Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, a Handel duets disc with Sarah Connolly and Rosemary Joshua, and most recently on Harmonia Mundi, a collection of Bach cantatas and arias with Elizabeth Watts and The English Concert.
