This season up and coming bass JORDAN BISCH makes his debut at the Washington National Opera as Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte and returns to the Metropolitan Opera in The Magic Flute and La Sonnambula. He also sings performances of the Verdi Requiem with the Indianapolis, Seattle, and Kansas City symphony orchestras, and sings his first performances of La Damnation de Faust with the Arizona Symphony Orchestra as part of the Tucson Desert Song Festival.
A graduate of the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, Mr. Bisch made his main stage debut there as the Second Knight in Parsifal, and has since appeared in productions of Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Aida, Idomeneo, Romeo et Juliette, and on tour in Japan in Don Carlos. He also appeared as Kecel in the Julliard/Metropolitan Opera joint production of The Bartered Bride, conducted by James Levine. Other recent engagements have included his San Francisco Opera debut as Angelotti in Tosca, the world premiere of Daron Hagen’s Amelia at the Seattle Opera, Sarastro at Opera Philadelphia, Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Dallas Opera, Arizona Opera, and Florida Grand Opera; the Second Armored Man in Die Zauberflöte at the Los Angeles Opera and the Théâtre du Capitol in Toulouse, Frère Laurent in Roméo et Juliette with the Arizona Opera and PORTopera, and Sarastro with the Julliard Opera Theater. In concert he has appeared at the Hollywood Bowl in a performance of Aida with Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Tanglewood Festival in a performance of the Mozart Requiem with Michael Tilson Thomas, and at the Verbier Festival as Paolo in Simon Boccanegra with Maestro Levine.
A native of Vancouver, Washington, Mr. Bisch won second place in the 2009 Operalia competition. Other awards include winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Grand Final, recipient of the 2005 Sara Tucker Study Grant, and a recipient of the Richard Tucker Career Grant in both 2006 and 2009.
