Mario Davidovsky

About this Artist

An American composer born in Médanos, Buenos Aires, Mario Davidovsky began his musical studies at the age of seven, continued his education at the Collegium Musicium, and graduated from the Bartolomé Mitre School in Buenos Aires in 1952.

He settled in New York (1960), where he studied with Milton Babbitt, taught at City College (1968–80), and worked at the Columbia–Princeton Electronic Music Center. He is widely recognized for his pioneering work in electroacoustic music. His Synchronisms are early examples of successful integration of acoustic instruments with electronic sound.

Davidovsky received the Pulitzer Prize in 1971 for his Synchronisms No. 6 for piano and tape. Since the 1970's the bulk of Davidovsky's output has consisted of chamber, orchestral, and vocal works.
