About this Artist
Juan Florez is a violinist from Miami, Florida. He is a student at the University of Florida College of the Arts where he is studying Violin Performance with Dr. Janna Lower, and will also be pursuing a Master’s of Science in Management. He has studied the violin for 15 years, while also being proficient on the piano, which he started at the age of 4.
Juan has played in several ensembles throughout his life, both domestically and internationally. He played in the Miami Music Project Leader’s Orchestra for ten years, in which he was the concertmaster for one year. He has also been a violinist in the YOLA National Festival for five years, and has been a fellow in the YOLA National Institute for two years. He is a current member of the University of Florida Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed in many world-renowned venues, including the Hollywood Bowl, Barbican Hall, the Arsht Center, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and Usher Hall.
Juan has also worked with many different artists, such as Gustavo Dudamel, James Judd, Raymond Chobaz, Pitbull, Dr. Rufus Jones, NYO Great Britain, Michael Tilson Thomas, Raphael, Juan Felipe Molano, Roderick Cox, and Paolo Bortolameolli. He was the recipient of the Kevin Garcia Foundation Scholarship and the PPCHS Passion Prize Scholarship, along with other academic and musical accolades throughout his life.
Juan has made music the top priority in his life. From founding and leading the Music Honor Society in his high school, to performing side-by-side with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and sitting first chair of the second violins, his passionate drive and dedication to his craft is clear.
