About this Artist

Angelica Cortez is a youth collaborator, arts administrator, and educator based in Los Angeles. As a Chicana, and member of the LGBTQ+ community, her passion lies in creating space for young people to be their fullest selves, harness their own gifts, and learn from one another. In her current role with the LA Phil, she oversees YOLA National programs, which connect young musicians, educators, and advocates who believe that music has a powerful role to play in our communities. During her time at the LA Phil, she has supported the launch of YOLA National, led several tours abroad, and managed special projects, including performances at the Hollywood Bowl, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and various stages around the world. From 2015-2017 she worked to deepen YOLA’s local impact by supporting curriculum development, expanding academic support services, and creating professional development opportunities for teaching artists and program managers. Prior to her position with the LA Phil, she was a trumpet and brass teaching artist throughout Southern California. Angelica has a bachelor’s degree in trumpet performance from the University of California Davis and a master’s degree in teaching from Longy School of Music and Bard College.
