Eva-Maria Westbroek is undoubtedly one of the most acclaimed and widely-recognized opera singers in the world today. She has appeared in the majority of esteemed opera houses and festivals in the world including the Bayreuth and Aix-en-Provence Festivals, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Opéra de Paris, the Metropolitan Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro alla Scala Milan, Semperoper Dresden and Bayerische Staatsoper Munich. Her signature roles include Sieglinde Die Walküre, Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Minnie La Fanciulla del West, Maddalena Andrea Chénier and the title roles in Francesca da Rimini, Jenufa, Manon Lescaut, Katya Kabanova.
Career highlights to date include Sieglinde at the Metropolitan Opera, Bayreuth Festival, Deutsche Oper Berlin, San Francisco Opera and in concert with Sir Simon Rattle and the Bayerischer Rundfunk; Santuzza Cavalleria Rusticana at La Monnaie, the Metropolitan Opera and Royal Opera House Covent Garden; Katerina Ismailova Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk at the Royal Opera House and Dutch National Opera; Minnie La fanciulla del West at the Wiener Staatsoper and Metropolitan Opera and Maddalena Andrea Chénier opposite Jonas Kauffman at the Royal Opera House, and in concert with Opera Australia in Sydney and Melbourne. At the Paris Opera, Eva made her debut in the role of Lidoine Dialogues des Carmélites and was later invited to sing Chrysothemis Elektra, Elisabeth Tannhauser and Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk. Eva also achieved universal acclaim portraying the title role in the world premiere of Turnage’s Anna Nicole with the Royal Opera House.
In the 2021/22 season, Eva-Maria returns to the Bayerische Staatsoper for Giorgetta Il tabarro before appearing in recital with Thomas Oliemans and Malcolm Martineau at the Wigmore Hall, London, and Concertgebouw, Amsterdam. Later in the season, Eva will appear at Greek National Opera for Maddalena in Andrea Chénier before returning to the Opéra de Paris and Palau de les Arts Valencia for the role of Marie Wozzeck. Continuing her artistic relationship with pianist Julius Drake, Eva will appear in further recitals in Madrid, Amsterdam and London.
Across her career, Eva has sang with such esteemed orchestras as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic and Paris Orchestra, working with acclaimed conductors including Marek Janowski, Antonio Pappano, Simon Rattle, Bernhard Haitink, Lorin Maarzel, Edo de Waart, Mariss Janson, Valery Gergiev, Lothar Zagrosek, Christoph von Dohnányi, Christian Thielemann, Carlo Rizzi and Fabio Luisi. She has had the pleasure in singing operatic prodcutions by Martin Kusej, Barbara Frey, Niklaus Lehnhoff, Guy Joosten, Francesca Zambello, David Pountney, Vera Nemirova, Richard Jones, Keith Warner, Christoph Loy, Robert Carsens, Andrea Breth and Richard Eyre, to name but a few.
Eva’s vast array of honours and awards include First Prize from the Dutch VSCD Classical Music in the category ‘Most Impressive Individual Artistic Achievement’, laureate at the Angelica Catalani Concours and the Santa Maria Ligure Concours, a Grammy nomination for Wozzeck with Dutch National Opera and the title of Kammersängerin der Staatsoper Stuttgart, the company with which she was a member of the ensemble from 2001 - 2006. Since 2014, Eva has been an Ambassador for Musicians without Borders, an important cause that she holds dearly to her heart.
