About this Artist
Grammy Award-winning bassist and composer Eric Revis courts a stubborn infatuation with exploration. A fixture on vibrant, evolving music scenes, he has sought commitment to honest expression throughout his career. Following an apprenticeship with Betty Carter, Eric would enter an ongoing association with Branford Marsalis and collaborate with such distinctive voices as Peter Brötzmann, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Kris Davis, Jason Moran, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Abbey Lincoln, Steve Coleman, Ralph Peterson, Lionel Hampton, McCoy Tyner, and Andrew Cyrille. He co-founded Tarbaby, alongside Orrin Evans and Nasheet Waits, as well as Options, featuring Waits and Bennie Maupin, and Lancaster, featuring Jeff Parker, Guillermo Brown, and Joshua White.
In 2020, the prolific composer issued Slipknots Through a Looking Glass, his first release on Pyroclastic Records. Earning 4-1/2 stars from DownBeat and the No. 3 spot on NPR Music’s 2020 Jazz Critics Poll, the quintet recording, featuring Davis, Bill McHenry, Darius Jones, and Chad Taylor, received praise from The New York Times, JazzTimes, and Rolling Stone.
The 2017 DownBeat Critics Poll Rising Star Bassist has received recent grants from Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, The Jazz Gallery Fellowship, and Jazz Coalition. He is also a recipient of The Shifting Foundation grant in 2021.
