About this Artist

Lucas is a 2023/24 fellow in the LA Phil Composer Fellowship Program. Lucas is a high school senior and an active trombonist in a variety of ensembles. Past positions include those as co-principal trombone of the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, principal trombone of the Colburn Youth Orchestra, member of the Colburn Honors Brass Quintet, and of the Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra. Under his high school’s advanced music program, Lucas has performed in many chamber ensembles, most recently the premiere of a brass trio including a movement written by him. Having independently composed for four years, Lucas seeks to convey complex emotions and environments through music and borrows styles from jazz and electronica.
