About this Artist
South Korean cellist Hayoung Choi, born in Bielefeld (Germany) in 1998, is the First Prize Winner of the 2022 Queen Elisabeth Competition for Cello and the Krzysztof Penderecki International Cello Competition in Poland 2018 as well.
As a soloist, she has performed with numerous renowned orchestras, among them the Boston Philharmonic, Belgian National Orchestra, Kremerata Baltica Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg, Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra, Barcelona Chamber Orchestra, Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra, Sungnam Philharmonic Orchestra and Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra.
Hayoung Choi played at prestigious festivals such as the City of London Festival, Amsterdam Cello Biennale, Kronberg Cello Festival in Germany, Prades Pablo Casals Festival in France and Beijing Supercello Festival.
The cellist began her musical education at the pre-college of Korean National University of Arts and later on she studied at the Purcell School of Music in England. Between 2014-2017 she studied with Prof. Frans Helmerson at the Kronberg Academy in Germany where she gained her Bachelor´s and Master´s degree. From 2017 she has continued her studies at the Kronberg Academy with Prof. Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, who also was her teacher at the University of Arts in Berlin until 2022. Meanwhile the artist is studying with Ivan Monighetti at the Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid.
