About this Piece

Great vernacular tunes can come from anywhere, and Hector Olivera is one of the organ’s notable champions of film music. He has recorded music from films ranging from Gone with the Wind and Spartacus to Cinema Paradiso and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Hiding under the French and German titles on this program are his settings of two classic songs associated with Judy Garland. “Over the Rainbow,” of course, is her signature song from The Wizard of Oz, a 1939 Academy Award-winner with music by Harold Arlen.
