Jorge Drexler

Uruguayan musician, composer, and singer Jorge Drexler is one of the most influential voices in contemporary Ibero-American music.

With a career spanning more than three decades, Drexler has built a distinctive and substantial body of work on the international music scene. He has released 15 studio albums and taken his music to stages around the world, shaping an artistic voice defined by curiosity, experimentation, and deep poetic sensitivity.

His multi-award-winning body of work is marked by an ongoing dialogue between music, literature, and knowledge, with lyrics that move naturally between poetry and science. Passionate about words—and about the décima poetic form—Drexler has developed a language of his own that explores emotion while seeking to build bridges between cultures and societies, appealing to empathy and to the ties that connect us.

Trained as a doctor, he left Uruguay in 1995 and moved to Spain to devote himself entirely to music and composition. His work has been recognized with an Academy Award (2005) for Best Original Song, 16 Latin Grammys (2014, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2024, and 2025), a Goya Award (2011), and a Silver Biznaga, among other honors.

In March, at an especially fertile moment in his career, Drexler released Taracá, an album that opened a new chapter in his creative journey. The record was conceived as an album of bridges: generational and geographical, stylistic and temporal, concrete and symbolic. The pulse of Uruguayan candombe runs through it as a guiding thread, with lyrics and drum at the heart of most of its songs.

The album is accompanied by a presentation tour across different venues and territories, where the artist performs these songs live in a new stage show.

With his previous album, Tinta y Tiempo (2022)—which received six Latin Grammys (2022) and three Graffiti Awards (2023)—he played venues such as the Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires for two consecutive nights, as well as the largest concert of his career at the Movistar Arena in Chile. That tour, which spanned more than 90 shows, received the Ondas Award for Best Show in 2023, among other recognitions.

Today, Drexler’s unstoppable career continues, with audiences always eager to discover his new artistic directions and to cross the bridges he leaves open.
